PRESQUE ISLE — Sporting enthusiasts have something to look forward to this weekend, with the return of the Presque Isle Fish & Game Club’s Sportsman’s Show, to be held at Gentile Hall at the University of Maine at Presque Isle.

From cooking to camping, hunting to fishing, this year’s event will feature a variety of displays to please just about any interest. While some changes are in store, many familiar faces will be on hand as vendors spend two days in the gymnasium, ready to talk ‘turkey,’ moose, deer, bear, fish and more. Whether you’re a hunter or enjoy a good ATV ride, businesses from miles around will have wares on display covering a wide array of interests.
“We won’t be holding the moose-calling contest. That’s probably our biggest change,” said event organizer Nick Archer. “We have a number of displays planned, including our trout ‘pond.’”
Archer said a variety of giveaways will be available, with children’s fishing poles being one of the most popular.
“We’ll be giving out free fishing poles, while supplies last, to children 10 and under. We want to get kids involved in outdoor activities, and what better time of year for them to get ‘hooked’ on fishing? This is something the whole family can do together,” he said.
One exhibit that was missed at last year’s event but will be back this year is A.E. Howell’s wild animals.
“Art Howell will be back this year, bringing Baxter the bear and several other creatures,” said Archer.
“This provides Art with an opportunity to educate the public on various wildlife,” he said.
Admission for this year’s show is $4 per person, with children 10 and under free.
    Hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, March 27; and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 28.
