Washburn back when …

We hope you will all enjoy this new addition to the Washburn news. Photos will be in at least once a month, with more as the 2011 anniversary year for Washburn nears.
This week’s photo is one of nine Boy Scouts and their dog preparing to go on a hike or other Scouting event. Some effort has been made to identify the Scouts (and even the dog), with not much success. If anyone can identify the boys, please contact Christie Cochran at 455-8034 or gramchristie@yahoo.com. The building in the background is the Boy Scout cabin that was located on the grounds near the Mill Pond, and the year was 1953.
Also, anyone having older photos depicting community life in Washburn of the past they wish to include in this new segment is encouraged to do so as well.

Ms. Washburn 2010

Five daring young men vied for the title of Ms. Washburn on Saturday, March 6. Contestants and their escorts included Mam-OH Gram (Matt Donnelly) and Hillary Harris, Jack-Q-Lynn (Jacob Theriault) and Amber Reed, Aneeda Mann (Nicholas Bull) and Alexis Beachle, Burn-A-Debt (Trevor Pendexter) and Jordan Chandler, and Shirley Curly (Shayne Stevens) and Kayla Pike. The emcees for the evening were Jensen Reed and Craig Sjoberg, who were formally dressed for the occasion. The judges were Daryl Molton, Tom Drew and Billy Pike. The director for the event was Tracy Reed, videotaping was done by Linda Michaud and the music and sound man was chorus teacher Mr. Diette.
The five “ladies” opened the show with a dance to “Single Ladies.” Mam-O-Gram performed an interpretive dance; Jack-Q-Lynn performed a dance routine with an unusual stage entrance; Aneeda Man showed her skills in a fitness routine that left the judges blushing; Burn-A-Debt performed a song and dance showing off her spiked hair; and Shirley Curley, hailing from Russia, made this an “international” affair, performing a ballet for the crowd.
The contestants competed in various events, including evening gowns, interviews and a special musical number.
A special bit of entertainment was provided by Lindsey Blackstone and Dakota Koch singing “New Guy in Town” while the judges were deliberating.
Awards for the evening were given to: Jake Theriault, runner-up; People’s Choice Most Glamorous went to Trevor Pendexter; Best Talent and Ms. Congeniality was awarded to Shayne Stevens; and Matt Donnelly gained the title of Best Legs. Nicholas Bull was crowned Ms. Washburn, with a slight fray breaking out with accusations of “cheater” and other words being tossed about.
All in all, it was a worthwhile fund-raising event for the Class of 2010.
