Pattee-Page Post 187 members
discuss future of Legion Hall
EASTON NEWS
The Pattee-Page Post 187 American Legion of Easton held their monthly meeting with the salute of the flag and the Legion Preamble. Chaplain Bernard Hussey led the group in prayer.
The secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were read and accepted.
Once more there was concerned discussion about what to do with the Legion Hall as it had not been in use for a long time and would be too costly to bring back to use. It was decided that Bernard Hussey would see to getting the propane tank back to the company. After more discussion it was decided that because the building was not costing the Post anything right now, that the problem would be tabled for the time being to see what might come up in the future.
It was voted to not have a yard sale as once talked about. A sum of money was voted as a donation to Doug and Kim Hammond to help with their medical finances. The Post had been approached about making a donation toward the purchase of flags to put along the street. This motion was defeated.
It was voted that the Post would hold a Bean-Hole-Bean Supper at the elementary school cafeteria during the Easton Field Days celebration. They would also supply a color guard and a float for the Easton Field Days parade.
Those Legionnaires present were: James Ireland, Bernard Hussey, Hayward Ames, Clair Carter, Doug Henderson, Jeff Larsen and Ronald Michaud. As there was no more business, the commander declared the meeting adjourned.

The Easton Happy Days Senior Citizens’ Club met recently at the manor for their last of the month meeting with 15 members present. The potluck meal was made up of dishes that the members’ mothers or grandmothers used to make, such as hash, biscuits, casseroles and salads. Some of the members also brought recipes that went along with their dish.
After their meal, the meeting was opened by President Nina Trask, with the salute to the flag and the singing of “My Country Tis of Thee” with Liana Demerchant at the piano. The group sang “Happy Birthday” to Joann Johnson whose birthday was on March 1. Treasurer Ida Doak called the roll call with these members present: Liana Demerchant, Clair and Eldora Carter, Lindy Fowler, Marie Hewitt, Rogena Thomas, Ezalee Smith, Nina Trask, Glenice Craig, Joann Johnson, Arlene Ladner, Rena Richardson, Lois Ladner, Ida Doak and Helen King.
The treasurer’s report was read and accepted as was the secretary’s report. A thank-you note was read by the president from Steve Farnham for the donation given by the Club to the Aroostook Area Agency on Aging.
The president also had application papers from the Maine Commodity Supplement Food Program for anyone to fill out if they were eligible, money-wise, for this program. No one took the paper.
She also told the group that she was contacted by Julie Waugh to see if the manor rec room might be available for a group to play music. She was told that she would have to contact the Easton Housing Corp. for that information.
There was no new business and Lois Ladner took over the program. She asked each member to go back in their memory and tell the rest of the members something special about their lives that the group probably hadn’t known. It was a fun time in reminiscing about the past. It was voted to adjourn the meeting.
The Easton Kiwanis Club met at the Odd Fellow’s Hall on March 2, with nine members and two guests. After a pot roast supper cooked by Loris Allen, with cheescake, Mike Allen opened the meeting with the salute to the flag and prayer by Ann Osgood.
He reported that the Winter Carnival went off with a lot of children and adults in attendance. The Kiwanis served hotdogs and rolls as well as sweets and soda. They donated $80 of the donations taken in to the Rec Department and also the hotdogs, rolls and soda, that were left over.
Mike also reminded the group of the upcoming benefit supper that will be held for Kim Hammond on March 13 at the Odd Fellow’s Hall. This is an auction where people who see something they might like write their name on a piece of paper along with the amount they are willing to pay for it, then slip it, face down, under that item. The highest bidder on that item gets it. Donations of nice things would be appreciated.
Before adjourning, Mike told the group that there would be a walk for multiple sclerosis to be held on May 1. Jessica Blackstone is in charge of setting this up.
Those members present at the meeting were: Bernard Hussey, Harold Clark, Ann Osgood, Lt. Governor, Barbara Blackstone, Esther Richardson, Mike Cyr, Eldora and Clair Carter and Mike and Loris Allen. The guests were Jim Cilley and the Allens’ grandson, Jaren Winger.
