Ivy Mitilda Craig Merrill, of SOUTH CASCO and OTISFIELD, went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 25, 2010. She was born October 21, 1916, in Masardis, the daughter of Elsmore and Serena (Rockwell) Craig. She was educated in the Masardis Schools.
She married Guy L. Merrill on October 17, 1941, and they had nine children. As much as she loved Guy, her children were her life. She always put them first regardless of the circumstances. She was affectionately known as Ivy, Mum, Gram, Gamma and Ma. She loved reading her Bible, watching the Red Sox, crocheting, word search puzzles, books, and horses. Her family is very aware of the strong Christian heritage she has left. She spoke often of her childhood horse named Roxie. "Gram" loved to be surrounded by children. She was never tired of their noise, whether they were crying or laughing. In the 70's & 80's, she and Guy had a vegetable, flower and egg stand on Route 302, in Casco. Survivors include three sons: Clifford (Paula) of Portland, Bobby of Naples, and Guy (Gail) of Otisfield; five daughters: Wendy (Hollis) Robinson of Masardis, Wanda (Dick) Skillings of Casco, Barbi
(Roger) Robbins of Casco, Vicki Merrill of Auburn and Joni Merrill of Otisfield. She was blessed with eleven grandchildren: Dicky Skillings, Vicki Martin, Jeremy Skillings; Kippy, Merrill, Serena Dyer, Nathan Merrill, Amy Hersey, April LaPlante, Joshua Robbins, & Kayla Robbins. Ivy
is also survived by 18 1/2 (due in July 2010) great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Pearl Sampson of South Paris.
Ivy was predeceased by her husband, Guy; son, Elwyn; grandchild, Dawn; great-grandchild, Courtney; brothers, Kip and Bud Craig; and sisters, Mary Taylor, Ruby Craig, Idella Nickerson and Hatty Turner.
