Sorority discusses projects, celebrates Valentine’s Day

    Members of Preceptor Alpha of Beta Sigma Phi met at the home of Ann LaPlante on Feb. 11. Miriam Gregg co-hosted. As President Jane James was absent, Vice President Paula Flora conducted the meeting.     Service projects were the focus of the meeting. Members brought donations for Homeless Services of Aroostook.   
    In March, the group will bring toiletries to assemble personal care packets for the Battered Women’s Project.A donation of $25 was made to Presque Isle High School’s Project Graduation.
    Individual members have also been involved with various charities. Linda Smith donated $25 on Preceptor Alpha’s behalf to C.A.N.C.E.R. Her son, Derek, is involved in Locks of Love and the donation was prompted by his fund-raising activities for this cause. In addition, Bernice Belanger and her daughter, Renee, volunteered for Habitat for Humanity on their recent trip to Las Vegas. They enjoyed helping with the construction and got to meet members from “The Amazing Race” who were also volunteers.
    Members also congratulated Nancy Lee Smith and Darrylin Keenan on the birth of their grandchildren.  Katie Scarlett Smith (6 lb. 13 oz. and 19 inches) was born Jan. 19, and Cooper James Keenan (9 lb. 8 oz. and 22 inches) was born Feb. 7.
    After the meeting, members celebrated Valentine’s Day with a Yankee Swap and delicious refreshments provided by Ann LaPlante, Paula Flora, Nancy Lee Smith, Linda Smith, and Cam Hayward.
