Skating show set March 13

    PRESQUE ISLE — Figure skaters young and old alike will take to the ice of the Presque Isle Forum Saturday, March 13 for a pair of skating shows.     The Northern Maine Figure Skating Club’s annual “Musical On Ice” will present shows at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. This year’s theme of “So You Think You Can Skate?” is a based on the reality television show, “So You Think You Can Dance” and will feature a variety of numbers choreographed based on specific dances, such as two step, cha cha, hip hop, contemporary, salsa, samba, Charleston, jitterbug and jive.
    “Throughout the year, our advanced skaters practice two to four days a week, with most of our Basic Skills students practicing one to two days a week,” said event coordinator Haley McCrum. “Skaters will show off talents, such as axels, sprials, sit spins, flying camels and footwork.”
    Music for the program will include such favorites as: “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” “Diamonds are a Girl’s Best Friend,” “Jump in the Line,” “Best of My Love,” “Nothin’ But a Good Time,” “Beat It,” “We Go Together,” “What I Like About You,” and “I’ve Got Rhythm.”
    Skaters from age 3 to adult, from Presque Isle, Caribou, Mapleton, Fort Fairfield, Easton and Washburn  will perform in the show. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children and may be purchased in advance at The Forum or from a Northern Maine Figure Skating club member.
    Coaches choreographing the numbers are: Haley Kelley, Cortney Rector, Katie Smith, Jessica Scott and Shayna da Cruz.
