Tournament tickets

    Tickets are available for Saturday’s Eastern Maine Class B basketball tournament games being held at the Bangor Auditorium. The boys play at 10:35 a.m. and the girls at 4:35 p.m. 

    Ticket prices per session are $7 for adults and $4 for students. Tickets can be picked up at the Presque Isle High School athletic office from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. today through Friday.

Lifeguard class

    The Presque Isle Indoor Pool will offer an American Red Cross Lifeguard Class Feb. 17-20 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participants must be 15 year old or older and able to swim 300 yards doing front crawl and breaststroke with good strokes.  
    The deadline to register is Feb. 12. Call the indoor pool at 764-2564 for more information.

Ashland to hold alumni basketball event

    It’s being called both “End of an Era” and “One More Time Down the Court.” Either way, an alumni basketball event is being held Saturday, March 13 at the Bobby Goding Gymnasium in Ashland from 4-7 p.m. The event is taking place as the gymnasium, which was built in 1950, is being demolished this summer with the new school being constructed.
    Anyone who has ever played basketball at Ashland is encouraged to attend the get together. Call 435-3481 for more information.

K of C Free Throw

    The Fort Fairfield Knights of Columbus are once again hosting the annual K of C Free Throw Competition at the Fort Fairfield Community Center on Friday, Feb. 12 from 3-4:15 p.m.
    The competition is for boys and girls ages 10-14 as of Jan. 1, 2010. Boys compete separate from girls in the five different age groups. The winner in each age group from Fort Fairfield will have the opportunity to participate in the K of C District Free Throw Championship that will be held in Fort Fairfield on Saturday, Feb. 27.
    All winners from the district championship will qualify to compete in the state championship, to be held in Old Town on March 13.  For more information regarding this program, call 472-3882.

Cole Jackson, 38.03; third, Aaron Swanson, 41.66. Ages 13-15: first, Kameron Manter, 38.85.
    Boys snowboarding ages 7-9: first, Brandon Manter, 1.21.
    Girls skiing, ages 7-9: first, Emma Postell, 43.34; second, Libby Moreau, 46.20. Ages 10-12: first, Maddy Postell, 36.28; second, Shelly Lewis, 39.46; third, Jillian Jandreau, 40.86. Ages 13-15: first, Hanna Postell, 36.13.
    Girls snowboarding, ages 10-12: first, Kerrigan Manter, 1.11.

Free fishing weekend

    Want to get your kids on the ice to experience the joy of hooking a fish? Want to show your friends and neighbors how much fun it is to fish?
    Valentine’s weekend is the time to do it as the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife promotes Family Fishing Days.
    On Saturday, Feb. 13 and Sunday, Feb. 14, people can fish for free on Maine’s waterways. This free fishing event is open to any person except those whose license has been revoked or suspended. All fishing regulations apply.
    “Family Fishing Days provide the perfect opportunity for adults to introduce children to fishing,” said Commissioner Roland “Danny” Martin.

Athletes of the week

    The Presque Isle Varsity Club and Big Cheese Pizza congratulate Elizabeth Kofstad and Keenan Eaton for being selected as athletes of the week for Jan. 19-23.
    Kofstad scored 15 points and had 11 rebounds to help the girls varsity basketball team to wins over Mattanawcook and Bucksport.
    Eaton hit the game-winning shot in the boys varsity basketball team’s win over Old Town.
