The local food pantry is in need of responsible, compassionate individuals who are willing to help bag groceries during the monthly distributions a few times a year. The pantry holds two monthly distributions each month — the second Tuesday from 1-3 p.m. and on the fourth Tuesday from 6-8 p.m.
Although volunteers are welcome at either distribution, the 6-8 p.m. time slot is more in need of volunteers. If you are willing to give six to 10 hours of your time each year to the food pantry, please contact Cathy Cropley at 429-8043.
The Mars Hill Rotary Club met on Tuesday, Jan. 5, at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center.
The special speaker was Rotarian Dr. Eric Nicholas. He spoke about the central Aroostook branch of Friends Helping Friends, a non-denominational organization whose mission statement is “To show the love of Jesus Christ through our helping hands to those who have a need within our churches, organizations and communities.” The branch, which covers Mars Hill, Blaine, Westfield and Bridgewater, helps provide for the needs of the widowed, single parents, the disabled, the visitor or any person with a physical, emotional or spiritual need.
Some of the ways that help was given in the past year were painting, shingling, electrical, visiting, making baked goods, clothing, plumbing, etc.
If you feel led to offer your skills or talents to the ministry of Friends Helping Friends, please contact Richard Kennedy at 429-8190, Dr, Eric Nicholas at 769-9161, Perley Kennedy at 768-5839 or William Neal at 429-9066. Monetary donations may be sent to Friends Helping Friends, POB 333, Mars Hill, ME 04758. Donations are tax deductible.
The organization’s board members meet the second Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. at East Ridge Union Church. They welcome the opportunity to meet with area organizations or churches to discuss Friends Helping Friends.
