PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Northern Maine Community College is offering a workshop to help the businesses and organizations of Aroostook County to be more successful in writing for the media. The workshop, which will run on two evenings beginning Jan. 11, will be led by Jason Parent, director of development and college relations at NMCC.
This media writing workshop will help participants learn to write effective news releases, “pitch” letters, backgrounders and fact sheets for the print and broadcast media, as well as how to use the Internet as a public relations tool. Effective media writing is a powerful extension to a company’s advertising, promotion, public relations and sales functions.
Individuals attending this workshop will learn how to make the most of it with practical “insider” tips and techniques to craft and write effectively for the media.
The workshop will be held Monday, Jan. 11 and Tuesday, Jan. 19 from 6-9 p.m. The cost is $79, plus text. For more information or to register, call the continuing education division at 768-2849.
In today’s business environment, the use of computers has virtually replaced many office functions previously done manually or using less sophisticated equipment – word processing, bookkeeping, recordkeeping, data processing and typesetting. More and more employees at a variety of levels – clerical, technical and professional – are required to learn a wide range of computer applications for their jobs.
With this in mind, Northern Maine Community College has designed a certificate level basic course in Microsoft Office Applications.
Microsoft Office Applications encompasses Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access and PowerPoint. Basic Microsoft Office Applications will run on Wednesday evenings from 6-9 p.m. Jan. 13-March 31. The cost of the course is $325. Group discounts are available for businesses with three or more employees attending.
An advanced certificate series is planned for April 14-June 30 for those who would like to continue their training to the advanced level.
For more information or to register for Basic Microsoft Applications, please call the college’s continuing education office at 768-2849.
Are you afraid of computers? That is a question that many of us can still answer with a resounding, “Yes.” Northern Maine Community College is offering a “Crash Course in Computers” to help individuals overcome these fears and to answer questions about basic operations, software and purchasing a computer.
This hands-on workshop will teach participants the “must know” components of a PC, their names and what they do. During the three-hour session, participants will learn what an operating system is and how to surf the Internet, as well as get an overview of the Microsoft Office Suite.
The course is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 12 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. The cost of the workshop is $39. Call NMCC’s continuing education division at 768-2849 for more information or to register for this course.
