Mars Hill news

by Tomi Henderson

The Mars Hill Rotary Club met on Tuesday, Dec. 29, at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center. The new slate of officers for 2010-2011 will be: Ed Wright, president; Tomi Henderson, vice president; Rena Kearney, treasurer; and Richard Watson, secretary.

The special speaker was Theresa Fowler, executive director of the Presque Isle Are Chamber of Commerce. The Presque Isle Chamber serves 13 communities in the central Aroostook area. The Chamber’s Web site receives around 10,000 hits per month with people looking for information about the area. Some are planning to relocate, while some are planning vacation time — with hits occurring in all seasons of the year.
The Chamber’s Mission Statement is: To serve, advance and publicize the commercial, agricultural, civic and general interest of the member communities. Working together is important to help the entire area with economic recovery and the development of tourism.
The Chamber Board will be meeting in different areas throughout the upcoming year. For more information, contact the Chamber at 764-6561 or visit their Web site: www.pichamber.com.
Copies of “I Remember When in Mars Hill” are now on sale at the Mars Hill Town Office and several other businesses in town. At a cost of $25, these books include 37 stories of Mars Hill through the years. Written by various individuals, there are stories and memories about local and farm families, sports, Main Street, the postal service, Eagle Scouts and much more.
Copies of the 2010 Birthday Calendar are also available for $6. Sponsored by the Mars Hill Rotary Club, proceeds will be used for various Mars Hill projects.

BHA thank-you

The Bridgewater Historical Association would like to wish everyone a happy new year. They send out their sincere thanks to everyone who donated their time, talent, and/or artifacts to the Association and also to all who participated in any of the events at the hall last year.
Your support was very much appreciated. The BHA members look forward to seeing everyone when events get started in 2010.
