PRESQUE ISLE — Advancements in medical technology and improvements in construction techniques await patients of the animal kingdom who visit the newly-constructed Presque Isle Animal Hospital, located at 79 Mapleton Rd.

Veterinarians Drs. Nicholas and Andrea Pesut and their staff opened the doors of their new animal hospital in Presque Isle with a Nov. 30 ribbon-cutting ceremony. The new 3,500 square foot facility replaced the original 2,200 square foot building at the same location.
“The business was established at that location in 1984 by Dr. Eric Hunter. We purchased it in 1991,” said Dr. Nicholas Pesut.
“We have served the greater Presque Isle community for many years and we are delighted to bring our loyal clients and their loved pets a state-of-the-art veterinary hospital,” said Dr. Andrea Pesut.
The new facility was designed by Pam Buck, engineer, and built by Buck Construction. It has the capacity to house about 40 patients in a comfortable, clean setting, according to Andrea.  The structure was built using the newest technology to ensure patients are as comfortable as possible.
“Under-the-floor radiant heat and soft, paw-friendly rubber flooring will be enjoyed by our patients,” she said.
The new facility includes a modern positive pressure surgical suite with a separate pre-surgical scrub room to optimize sterility during soft tissue and orthopedic surgical procedures.
“Our imaging center will provide space for radiology and ultrasound studies,” said Andrea.
A separate section is set up to prevent the spread of infections.
“A separate ward with its own designated outdoor yard will be specially maintained to care for patients with infectious diseases,” said Nicholas.
The facility boasts a variety of modern equipment.
“The spacious state-of-the-art clinical laboratory is home to modern hematology, chemistry and urinalysis analyzers,” she said.
The latest in pet dental care is also available.
“A high-speed ultrasound dental station and dental radiology unit are housed in a specially created dental suite,” continued Andrea.
The doctors see patients in one of three examination rooms. One of these rooms has been specially designed to allow patients’ families to visit their pet when hospitalization is necessary.
“We are especially pleased to offer this comfortable room to folks when we need to bid farewell to a loved pet,” said Andrea. “This room has its own private exit from the hospital — something we all appreciate at those sad times.”
Theresa Fowler, executive director of the Presque Isle Area Chamber of Commerce, and City Manager Tom Stevens were two of several city officials to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Each expressed their pleasure in welcoming the new facility to the city’s offerings.
“They’ve done a marvelous job. They have a spacious waiting area. It’s such a welcoming atmosphere,” said Fowler.
“This is a great addition to the many businesses that call Presque Isle home. The added space will allow them to better serve their patients,” added Stevens.
While the building is complete, the Pesuts said construction will continue when the weather warms up, with final grounds work and a parking lot  finished this spring.
“We’re also planning a big open house Jan. 31 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Watch for our invitation in the newspaper and on television. Everyone is invited,” said Andrea.
Guests will be given the grand tour during the open house.
“We’d love to give guests and their pets a tour,” she said.     “We look forward to continuing our tradition of compassionate and quality veterinary care for the community.”
