MAPLETON – Laura Belle Carter-Giles, 88, died Sunday evening December 27, 2009, at a Presque Isle hospital. She was born in Wade on October 26, 1921, the daughter of William and Murtie (Drost) Wilcox.
She worked at Converse Shoe, Maine Potato Growers in the egg department, and as a caretaker.
She is survived by three sons and their wives; Gary and Sandra Carter of Chapman, Dennis and Marilyn Carter of Mapleton, and Kevin and Jeana Carter of Chapman; three brothers, Merle Wilcox of Woodland, Sterling Wilcox of Wade, and Fred Wilcox of Easton; seven grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by two husbands, Morris Raymond “Bill” Carter and Eldon Giles, and a granddaughter Lyn Starr Carter.
At her request, there will be no calling hours or funeral. A graveside service will be held in the spring of 2010 at Southside Cemetery, Mapleton. Friends and family are invited to a celebration of her life 2 p.m. Sunday Jan. 3, 2010 at the West Chapman Advent Church with Pastor Nathan Gardiner officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Building Fund at the West Chapman Advent Church, 3466 West Chapman Rd., Chapman, Me. 04757.
