The Presque Isle girls remained perfect on the year as the Wildcats easily handled visiting Ellsworth Monday, 57-29.
Easton had a busy week with three contests. After suffering a pair of losses to begin the stretch, coach Dennis Anderson’s team bounced back for a decisive win over GHCA Monday at the University of Maine at Presque Isle. It marked the second time this season Easton had beaten the Eagles.
The following is a recap of games played through Monday, Dec. 28.
Easton 46, Greater Houlton Christian Academy 30 — At the University of Maine at Presque Isle Monday, Carla Halvorson netted 16 points to spark Easton (4-4) to victory over the Eagles. Sydney Trask added five points for the Bears, while Katie Cyr, Sarah Plourde, and Mindy Desmond, each had three; and Abigail Pool, two.
For the Eagles (2-4), freshman Mariah Wiley led the way with 11 points, while Emily Little, seven; McKenzie McGuire and Amber Michaud, both four; and Desiree Vargas and Salena Michaud, both two.
GHCA led 10-7 in the first quarter, but Easton seized a 26-14 halftime lead and was up 35-20 after three quarters.
Presque Isle 57, Ellsworth 29 — At Presque Isle Monday, the Wildcats remained unbeaten on the season with a lop-sided victory. Megan Ireland tallied 15 points to pace Presque Isle, with Chandler Guerrette and Haley Johnston both adding eight; Meredith Stewart and Alicia Kierstead, both five; Elizabeth Kofstad and Karlee Bernier, both three; and Kayla Richards, two.
For Ellsworth, Sarah Stanley tallied 11 points.
Presque Isle led 14-4, 30-10 and 42-21 at the quarter breaks.
Southern Aroostook 66, Easton 49 — At Easton Saturday, a 20-11 first quarter hole proved too great for Easton to claw out of as the Bears fell to Southern Aroostook. Easton’s Sydney Trask poured in 15 points in the loss. Other Easton scorers were: Ariana Babineau, 11; Brooke Hammond, eight; Carla Halvorson, seven; Sarah Plourde, four; and Mindy Desmond and Katie Cyr, both two.
For Southern Aroostook, Shelby Hartin led the way with 15 points, while Jasmine Rockwell added 13; Liz Goodall, 12; Kaitlyn Sommers, eight; Janel Rockwell, six; and Olivia Raymond, four.
The Warriors led 20-11, 33-26 and 48-39 at the quarter breaks.
Washburn 51, Easton 28 — At Easton Dec. 22, Washburn’s Rebecca Campbell single-handedly beat Easton as the junior dropped 31 points to lead the Beavers to victory. Other Washburn scorers were Sarah Sjoberg, eight; Meghan Saucier and Rayah Saucier, both four; and Jordan Chandler and Kristi Spencer, both two.
Halvorson paced Easton with eight points, while Hammond added six; Babineau and Desmond, both five; Trask, three; and Plourde, one.
Washburn led 20-5, 28-13 and 34-22 at the quarter breaks.
Central Aroostook 48, Hodgdon 32 — At Hodgdon Dec. 22, Rachael Grew scored 14 points, while Panther teammate Vicki McIntyre added 13 to lift Central Aroostook to victory. Other Panther scorers were: Chelsea Hartin, nine; Kristen Long, seven; and Brianna Hartin, five.
For Hodgdon, sophomore Brittany Davies led the way with 13 points, while Chelsea Sloat added five; Amanda Ryan and Haley Quint, both three; Kimberly Levesque and Emmaly Jurson, both two; and Cierra Willette, one.
Central Aroostook led 12-8, 26-13 and 39-24 at the quarter breaks.
