Grades 3 and 4 girls basketball
Kasey Haley scored all six of her points to help the Terriers hold on for the thrilling 21-19 win over the Black Bears. Julia Good led the way for the Terriers with eight points, followed by four points from Cierra LeVasseur. Rebecca Collins rounded out the scoring with three points. Emily Wheaton poured in a game-high 14 points to pace the Black Bears. Hailey St. Thomas and Kamryn Gilmour knocked down two points each, and Skyler Ellis added one point for the Black Bears. The Terriers jumped out to a 12-2 lead at the half en route to the 24-10 win over the Irish. Kasey Haley led the way for the Terriers with eight points, followed by six each from Brooke McLean and Savannah Rodriguez. Julia Good and Libby Boone netted two points each to round out the Terrier attack. Miranda Bragan and Acacia Johnston finished with four points each for the Irish, while Kayla Saucier added two points.

Skyler Ellis nailed three baskets for six points, and Breanna Byrd, Hailey St. Thomas and Sydney Kinney chipped in with two points apiece. Molly Kingsbury was the spark for the Irish, ending with a team high eight points. Kayla Saucier added five second-half points as the Irish attempted a rally. Acacia Johnston and Miranda Bragan finished with two points each.
The Black Bears used a strong fourth quarter to hold on for the 17-10 win over the Terriers. Emily Wheaton led the way with 10 points for the Black Bears. Alexandra Walsh, Breanna Byrd and Kamryn Gilmour netted two points each, and Skyler Ellis rounded out the attack with one point. The Terriers got two points from five players: Brooke McLean, Julia Good, Kasey Haley, Rebecca Collins and Savannah Rodriguez.
Savannah Rodriguez notched six of her game high 10 points in the fourth quarter to help the Terriers hold on for the 19-9 decision over the Irish. Teammate Julia Good nailed two baskets for four points and Brooke McLean and Rebecca Collins chipped in with two points each. Libby Boone rounded out the attack with one point. Kayla Saucier led the way for the Irish with five points. Marissa Greene and Acacia Johnston each contributed two points.
Grades 3 and 4 boys basketball
Adam Paterson led five Duke players with 10 points as they outlasted Syracuse, 24-20. Erick Tompkins added eight points, all of which came after intermission. Jason Dumais, Matthew O’Connell and Zech Morse all knocked down baskets for two points. Will Bridges poured in a game high 12 points to lead Syracuse. Jaren Winger netted six points and Trace Cyr contributed with two points and numerous rebounds.
Arizona picked up the 15-10 win over North Carolina in a defensive battle. RJ Gross scored a game high 11 points to lead Arizona, while Gage Young and Michael Berube added two points each. Jordan Bonville paced North Carolina with four points. Connor McManus and Joshua Baldwin finished with three points apiece.
Michigan used an 8-4 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter to escape with an 18-13 win over Syracuse. Griffin Guerrette scored six of his game-high 13 points in the critical quarter for Michigan. Jack Beaulieu chipped in with three points, and Isaac Currier rounded out the attack with two points. William Bridges led the furious comeback attempt for Syracuse, netting all seven of his team high points in the second half. Jaren Winger knocked down two shots for four points and Trace Cyr contributed two points.
Duke closed their match up with North Carolina on a 14-5 run to pick up the 21-13 in both teams’ final game of the season. Adam Paterson scored eight of his game high 10 points during the run for Duke. Erick Tompkins tallied five points for Duke while Jason Dumais finished with four points. Carter Rice brought the Duke total to 21 with two points. Jonah Hudson netted a team high eight points for North Carolina. Connor McManus and Joshua Baldwin finished with two points apiece and Riley Faye added one point.
Michigan and Arizona closed the books on another year of grades 3 and 4 boys basketball with a 17-10 Michigan victory. Griffin Guerrette tickled the twine to the tune of 14 points to lead the way for Michigan. Josh Rooney nailed a basket for two points, and Isaac Currier added a free throw for one point. Michael Berube paced Arizona with six points. Chandler Paradis and RJ Gross each chipped in with two points.
Kids’ Christmas Party
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department is once again hosting its Kids’ Christmas Party for children in grades 1-5. The event will be on Friday, Dec. 15 from 6-9:30 p.m.
Parents can finish up some Christmas shopping while their kids enjoy an evening of fun. Activities will include: bingo, gym games, a Red Sox swap and pizza eating. Gifts don’t have to be Red Sox related (we just don’t say that nasty ‘Y’ word around here).
Pre-registration if required as there are limited spaces available. The fee is $5 per child, plus a $3-$5 Red Sox swap gift.

New Year’s Overnight
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department will host a New Year’s Overnight for children grades 1-5 in the MSAD 1 communities. Parents may drop off kids starting at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 31, and pick up is by 8 a.m. Jan. 1.
Parents can celebrate New Year’s Eve without having to worry about their kids. The children will enjoy pizza, swimming, bingo, gym games, movies and a New Year’s celebration.
Pre-registration is required, and limited spaces are available. The cost is $25 per child. Registration begins Dec. 21 at the William V. Haskell Community Center.
Indoor pool
The Presque Isle Indoor Pool will be closed from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 19 due to a high school swim meet taking place.
The Presque Isle Indoor Pool will begin pre-paid registration Dec. 17 for the January-March swimming session.
Parent toddler and infant classes are Tuesday at 9 a.m. Three-year-old classes are Monday at 6 p.m., Wednesday at 1 p.m., Thursday at 10:30 a.m. or 6 p.m., Friday at 4:30 p.m. and Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
Four- to five-year-old lessons for those unable to swim 10 yards are Monday at 5:30 p.m.,Tuesday at 9 a.m., 10:30a.m. or 6:30 p.m.; Wednesday at 1:30 p.m.,Thursday at 9 a.m. or 6:30 p.m., Friday at 9 a.m. or 9:30 a.m. and Saturday at 10 a.m. or 10:30 a.m.
Swimming three- to five-year-old classes for those able to swim 10 yards classes are Monday at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday at 6 p.m., Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. and Saturday at 9 a.m.
Advance three- to five-year-old classes for those able to swim 15 yards are Monday at 1 p.m. and Wednesday at 9 a.m.
Learn to swim level one classes for those 6 year old or older and unable to swim 15 yards unassisted are Tuesday at 6 p.m., Thursday at 4:10 p.m. or 6 p.m. and Saturday at 10 a.m. Learn to swim classes for those able to swim 15 yards are Wednesday at 1 or 8 p.m., Thursday at 4:10 p.m. and Saturday at 9 a.m.
Learn to swim levels 3-4 classes are Wednesday at 2 or 6 p.m., Thursday at 5 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m. Learn to swim levels five and six classes are Monday at 6 p.m., Wednesday at 2 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m.
Endurance classes are for those who wanting to master the completion strokes. These classes are Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. and Thursday at 4 p.m.
Adult lessons are Monday at 9 a.m. or Wednesday at 7 p.m. Water exercise classes are Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10 a.m. and Monday and Wednesday at 6 p.m. Water jogging classes are Monday and Wednesday at 4:30 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 9 a.m.

Arts program
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department has begun registration for its after school art program starting in January. Grades 1-3 will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while grades 4-6 will meet on Wednesdays and Fridays, with all sessions running from 3-5:30 p.m.
The cost of the program is $60 for Presque Isle residents, with an additional fee for non-residents. Call 764-2545 for more information.
Archery
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department is offering an archery program for youth and adults on Sundays from 6-8:30 p.m. This is an informal, drop-in program with a $6 fee for each night of shooting. Participants may bring their own equipment, and there will be some available for those whom do not have equipment.
Big Rock ski passes
The Presque Isle Recreation and Parks Department has discounted lift tickets for Big Rock Ski Area in Mars Hill. Junior (ages 6 to 17) lift tickets will be sold for $20, while adult lift tickets will be sold for $24. Call 764-2545 with any questions.
