Time is short to make Medicare/Medicaid changes

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is encouraging Medicare beneficiaries to take advantage of the annual Open Enrollment period to make sure they have the best coverage available to meet their health care needs in 2010.     The Open Enrollment period started November 15th and runs through December 31st. It’s the one time every year when all people with Medicare can review and, if necessary, change their current health care coverage.
Medicare beneficiaries have a wide range of health and drug plan options in 2010, including Original Medicare. Open Enrollment is the time for those with Medicare to double-check that they have the best coverage for their individual needs. They may find that they like what they have, or may find a coverage option that better fits their needs. The Aroostook Agency on Aging has already helped more than 800 people since November 15 make changes to coverage saving most several hundred dollars. We have done enrollment clinics in Eagle Lake, Fort Kent, Madawaska, Van Buren, Caribou, Mars Hill and Houlton (in some towns twice).
We are extremely busy and are nearly booked for appointments right through December 31. Those with Medicare and access to the Internet can go to www.medicare.gov to research options and make changes in their Medicare prescription drug and health coverage. They also can call 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227) and have questions answered and get help. One-on-one assistance may be available at the Aroostook Agency on Aging but time is quickly running out for this help.
