Contest results
    Winner in the large category of the Winterfest’s annual contest was the Mars Hill IGA. Second place went to F.A. Peabody and third to Sargent’s. The small category winner was Burtchell’s Truck Brokerage, second place was the All Star Gymnastics studio and third place went to Shallie’s Place.

    A big thank you to all who participated in this contest. It’s wonderful to see the town lit up!!
Students of the Month
    In a continuing effort to recognize outstanding student citizenship, the faculty of Central Aroostook Junior-Senior High School announce that Alex Folsom and Whitney Klein have been selected as the November Students of the Month. They were selected in recognition of their commitment to the pillar of character.
    Alex is a member of the seventh grade class and lists gym, chorus and band as his favorite subjects. He is a member of the junior high basketball and baseball teams, as well as chorus and band.
    Alex enjoys hunting, fishing, camping, participating in sports and playing drums and guitar. His future plans involve going to college and having a family someday. Alex is the son of Arden and Connie Folsom.
    Whitney is a member of the sophomore class and lists advanced geometry, advanced English, French 2 and art as her favorite subjects. She is a member of the high school chorus, French Club, Gifted and Talented and cheerleading, soccer and softball teams. She enjoys sports, art, writing poetry, skiing, singing, watching scary movies, swimming, camping, shopping, listening to country music and doing her best in school.
    Her future plans involve making National Honor Society and going to college for two years in Maine and two more outside the state of Maine. She would like to pursue a degree in the medical field to become a psychologist or instructor of disabled children. She would also like to have a part-time art career to sell some of her artwork. Whitney is the daughter of Nancy and Jerry Klein.
Mars Hill Book Sale
    Copies of “I Remember When in Mars Hill” are now on sale at the Mars Hill Town Office. At a cost of $25, these books include 37 stories of Mars Hill through the years.
    Written by various individuals, there are stories and memories about local and farm families, sports, Main Street, the postal service, Eagle Scouts and much more. They will make a great Christmas gift.
    Sponsored by the Mars Hill Rotary Club, proceeds will be used for various Mars Hill projects.
Christmas specials
    Bridgewater Free Baptist Church will be doing a live nativity scene on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 19 and 20, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. They will also be doing a candlelight service on Christmas Eve at 6 p.m.
    The United Baptist Church in Mars Hill will be presenting a Cantata “The Love of God at Christmas” on Sunday, Dec. 20, at 6 p.m. A time of fellowship and refreshment will follow. They will also be doing a candlelight service on Christmas Eve at 6 p.m.
    The First Free Baptist Church in Blaine will be presenting a Cantata “Star of Wonder” during the morning worship service at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 20.
Rotary Club
    The Mars Hill Rotary Club met on Tuesday, Dec. 8, at 6:30 a.m. at the Aroostook Health Center.
    The special speaker was Mark Wilcox, local district manager of Dead River Company. The company is 100 years old and is still privately owned by members of the Hutchins family. They currently have 1,300 employees throughout Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. The central Aroostook area employs 47 people.
    While they started out as a forest products industry, they now are involved in heating oil, petroleum fuel, commercial real estate and convenience stores.
    The 2010 Birthday Calendars have arrived. For anyone wishing to purchase one, they are available at various locations in town. Cost is $6 per calendar. For any corrections, changes or additions to the calendar, contact Tomi Henderson at 429-9126 or at tomihen@yahoo.com.
Karaoke
    The Mars Hill American Legion Hall is offering karaoke each Friday night from 7 to 10 p.m. Admission is $3 per person. With Emcees Dennis and Celia Maurice, this promises to be a fun thing to do on Fridays.  Those under age 17 must be accompanied by an adult.
    Singers are to bring their own songs. Prizes will be awarded each Friday for best performers.
