THE PEOPLE’S CHOICE award for the Haunted Woods Walk 2009 went this year to Lowe’s, for two displays the business put on for the Halloween-themed event at the Aroostook State Park, hosted by park staff and the Presque Isle Area Chamber of Commerce.
One of the exhibits featured a recreation of the hanging of Jim Cullen — a familiar story to those from the area of a man accused of killing lawmen, who was then tracked down and hung for the crime on the outskirts of Mapleton. The other display was the creation of a graveyard scene, designed to spook visitors brave enough to venture out after dark at the park. Taking part in the presentation of the award were, from left: Nola Farley, PIACC Board member; Josh Addington, Lowe’s store manager; and Theresa Fowler, executive director, PIACC.
