PREPARED FOR A BIG STORM

PREPARED FOR A BIG STORM – Snow removal equipment, from shovels and scoops to snowblowers and bucket loaders were in use across Aroostook County Thursday morning, following the Dec. 9 storm that brought four to eight inches of snow to communities from Houlton to the St. John Valley.

Local businesses hurried to clear parking lots, as pictured here in Presque Isle, to ensure ample parking space was available for holiday shoppers. The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory Dec. 15, with snow accumulation of 4 to 6 inches expected by early Wednesday afternoon in the Presque Isle area. Officials indicated the combination of snow and increased winds, including gusts of up to 30 mph or more, would lower visibilities and create near whiteout conditions at times.
