Hernandez takes bronze

    Newark, New Jersey-Team Irish Fighter James “Chico” Hernandez, 55, of Washburn won a bronze medal in the Expert Executive Heavyweight division at the North American Grappling Championships Nov. 14.

    He defeated current NAGA 2009 NO-GI Executive Cruiserweight World Submission Grappling Champion George Sommers of Newark, N.J. by a score of 8-0 in the event, which was held at Essex County College in Newark.
    Last April, Hernandez won a World North American Grappling Association silver medal in NO-GI and won the World NAGA Bronze Medal in the Gi competition.
    Currently Hernandez is ranked No. 1 in both Maine and New England and is rated in the top five Expert Heavyweight Executive Fighters in the USA in both Gi and No-Gi styles of submission grappling.
