Boy Scout news
Scouts and Leaders of Troop 177, along with their families and friends, met at the Lidstone Methodist Church on Sunday, Nov. 15, for their fall Court of Honor and potluck supper. Following grace given by Drew White, all enjoyed a delicious meal.
The Court of Honor began with the Pledge of Allegiance and Scout Law lead by Drew White. Troop members received merit badges, rank advancements and popcorn sales awards.
Parker Thompson received his God and Church award in a ceremony as he was unable to attend the Nov. 1 God and Church ceremony at the Lidstone Methodist Church. Also in a surprise presentation, Taylor Skinner was presented the Scout of the Year award. This award is presented by the Scoutmaster to the Scout that has best exemplified the Scout Law and Oath, aw well as growth over the past year.
Troop leaders reviewed the status of the upcoming National Jamboree trip next year to Fort A.P. Hill Va. Planning is on schedule with visits to Washington, D.C., Luray Caverns, several battlefields, Hershey Park, Gettysburg and Valley Forge over the 16-day trip.
The troop was at their campsite Nov. 27-29 for the annual junior leader training and annual program planning for the 2010 year.
Christmas tree sales have begun. Please contact any leader or Scout for your tree selection and to make arrangements for delivery.

Town notes
The Salmon Brook Historical Society will be holding their quarterly meeting on Dec. 3 at the Washburn Civic Center at 6 p.m. There will be a potluck supper and those attending are asked to bring a main dish or dessert and your place setting.
There will be a business meeting; included in the agenda will be a monetary collection for needy Washburn families. Special musical entertainment will be provided by the Barber Shoppers, and all are welcome to attend.
Members of the Washburn Trailrunners Snowmobile Club will be meeting on Thursday, Dec. 10, at the clubhouse at 5 p.m. and their annual Yankee swap will begin at 6 p.m.
Santa Claus will be in town on Saturday, Dec. 12, and he’ll be escorted throughout Washburn starting at 6 p.m. and likely be at the Town Park on Main St. around 6:30 p.m. to pass out Christmas treats. If the weather is inclement, Santa will meet the children at the Washburn Fire Station.
The Washburn Town Council set a date and time for a Special Town Meeting warrant for Monday, Dec. 14, at 6:30 p.m. at the Washburn Civic Center. The regular December Council meeting will start at 7 p.m. and any interested residents are urged to attend.
Be sure and check out the proof of the Washburn Memorial Library cookbook at the library. Advanced orders can be made at the library or by phoning 455-4814. The books will be arriving the last of November, just in time for Christmas gift giving.

Scout of the year for 2009 is Life Scout Taylor Skinner. He was presented the award by Scoutmaster Larry Harrison during the Fall Court of Honor on Nov. 15 at the Lidstone Methodist Church. Taylor has exemplified living by the Scout Oath and Law and has shown much growth in his Scouting career over the past year.
