Local youth hockey teams battle on ice

    At Woodstock, New Brunswick Saturday, the Presque Isle Wildcat Atoms blanked the DQ Slammers, 4-0, as Heinz Schumacher picked up his first shutout of the season in goal, having faced 21 shots and not allowing a single puck into the net.     Thomas Patenaude scored three goals, while Sarah Beaulieu tallied off a Devin Ireland assist.
    On Sunday at home, PI topped the Slammers, 7-0, with Gregory Jellison, Eric Benson, Greyson Sonntag and Denny Young all playing well on defense in front of Schumacher, who had another shutout while facing just six shots.
    Connor Hebert and Tyler Levesque had assists in the contests, with goals scored by Patenaude (two), Young, Benson, Ryan Player and Isaac Madore.
    On Nov. 21, the PI novice team played Carleton III at the Forum in Presque Isle, falling by an 8-4 decision. Bailey York and Jake Stevens scored two goals each for PI, with Torey Levesque, Ian Michaud, Holden Stoutamyer, Brandon McKnight and Aidan Johnson providing assists. Bradyn Matheson was in goal.
    The Presque Isle Atoms defeated Woodstock I in Presque Isle, also on Nov. 21, by a 10-3 score. Alex Brewer and Young both had hat tricks, while Beaulieu talled twice and Player and Patenaude netted one goal each. All three of Young’s goals were short-handed. Benson, Austin Bouchard, Ireland, Jellison, Levesque, Madore and Sonntag chipped in with assists and Schumacher was strong in goal as he collected 17 saves.
    The local pee wee team saw action against Hartland, New Brunswick on Nov. 14 and came up on the short end of a 7-3 decision. Cooper Madore, Daniel Boucher and Colin McKay scored PI’s goals. Reece McDougall played well on the back line against a strong Carleton team, while Jillian Flynn had a solid game in goal.
