PRESQUE ISLE — A local man has been arrested on drug-related charges, following a two-month investigation by members of the Presque Isle Police Department and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency. “On Nov. 17, the Presque Isle Police Department, assisted by MDEA agents, executed a search warrant at the home of Gregory Adams, 48, on Diamond Lane in Presque isle. Officers seized Hydrocodone and Ritalin tablets that were not prescribed to Adams, around two ounces of processed marijuana, scales and drug paraphernalia,” said Darrell Crandall, division commander, MDEA.
According to Crandall, the search warrant was the culmination of an investigation that involved the purchases of marijuana from Adams over a period of two months.
“The PIPD had received a number of complaints (on Adams). The investigation was in response to those complaints,” Crandall said.
The arrest was made possible through the combined efforts of the two agencies.
“Two agents from DEA, six members of the PIPD, as well as the department’s drug K-9, Dozer, worked together on the case,” said Chief Naldo Gagnon, PIPD, noting Adams is also a registered sex offender.
Following the investigation and his subsequent arrest, Adams was taken to the PIPD and bail was posted.
“Adams is currently charged with trafficking in marijuana and possession of prescription drugs. He is scheduled to appear in Aroostook County Superior Court, in Caribou, on Dec. 18,” said Crandall.
The MDEA credits the public’s increased interest in providing tips through such mediums as the department’s Facebook account online with the agency’s ability to move a number of cases to the court level over the past year. According to a recent post on the DEA’s page, “MDEA is pleased to report that tips on criminal drug activity via Facebook and our Web site are on the increase.”
The posting also indicated that “while not every tip is sufficient to start a criminal investigation, most of the information is useful and appreciated.”
The Presque Isle Police Department also reports similar success with its Facebook account.
Anyone with information on drug activity in the area is asked to contact Crandall at 532-5170 or PIPD at 764-4476; or contact either agency online.
