PRESQUE ISLE – Spaghetti, salads and songs will be served up tomorrow night as the SAD 1 Music Boosters host an Italian spaghetti dinner. According to Louise Carroll, fund-raising chair of the Music Boosters, the Oct. 22 dinner will be from 5-6:30 p.m. at the Presque Isle High School cafeteria. The meal will include spaghetti, a mixed green salad, rolls, drinks and a dessert.
“We’re also going to be having some musical entertainment,” she said. “Jay Nelson, who is the chorus director for SAD 1, will be singing some songs. We’re hoping to have a few selections from the PIHS Shipmates’ fall musical production of ‘The Pajama Game,’ as well as performances by members of the PIHS Jazz Band. In addition, Pat Bragdon, band instructor at the Presque Isle Middle School, will be providing some musical entertainment with Jay [Nelson]. It should be a great night of music.
“Spaghetti dinners are relatively easy to do and are cheap to put on,” said Carroll, “so we decided to give it a try. Then we decided to build it up a little bit to include some entertainment.”
Carroll said the Boosters hope to serve at least 100 people.
“More would be great,” she said. “We hope people will come out and enjoy the meal and music.”
Members of the PIMS band and chorus will dress in black and white and serve as the wait staff.
Proceeds from the supper will benefit the 2012 music festival trip.
“Every four years the club tries to send the kids to a competition,” said Carroll. “The last one they went to was in New York City. Money from the Italian spaghetti dinner will go into a fund for that, as well as other programs that we bring to the schools.
“We’re tentatively looking at sending the kids to NYC again, although that will depend on how much money we raise between now and 2012,” she said. “It’s always a great experience for the students and they learn so much.”
Tickets, which are $8 for adults, $6 for children under the age of 12, and $25 for a family of four, are available by calling Carroll at 764-6147 or Jeannie Gilson at 764-7115. Tickets will also be available at the door.
