NorState FCU, the largest credit union in Aroostook, is committed to providing the best possible rates, lowest fees and superior service to its members, according to bank officials. On March 9, 1941, Fraser Employees Federal Credit Union was officially chartered and created to offer share savings and loans products to employees of Fraser Papers. From its beginning in a one-room office to the current state-of-the-art offices, NorState Federal Credit Union, as the financial institution has been called since December 2000 — following a merger in 1991 between Northern Maine Credit Union and Fraser Federal Credit Union, with Gateway Federal Credit Union joining Fraser Federal Credit Union in 2000 — has a history rich in the traditions of the people it has served. The exceptional relationship with its membership is the driving force that has helped the credit union thrive and prosper for the past 68 years. Today, NorState serves over 12,000 members with 66 employees in six locations, including: Madawaska, Eagle Lake, Ashland, Van, Buren, Fort Kent and Presque Isle, with assets totaling over $129 million.
NorState has access to great products and services throughout northern Maine and beyond. With the institute’s participation in the Shared Branching network, NorState members can do business at any of 3,800 locations nationwide.
“Our country is going through some rough economic times, but we want our members to know their financial institution is here for them as we continue to expand and seek opportunities,” said David Rossignol, CEO” of NorState FCU. “The new Presque Isle branch offers the same great service and competitive products that are available at our other locations throughout northern Maine.”
In 68 years of business, Rossignol said NorState’s goal has been the same — meeting the needs of its members.
“Throughout all those years, our focus has never changed. Service to our members is always number one and that’s why we continue to grow. Our large field of membership demands continued expansion and delivery of products and services to all our members in order to fulfill our mission of working together to improve our members’ financial lives.”
A wide array of services are available at all branches.
“NorState FCU offers a very large selection of products and services to accommodate its members. Our Commercial Business Savings and Loans Department also has great products and services for your business. Insurance products are also available through the credit union. Our youth and teen programs are well-received by our younger members and our prime-time program offers great accommodations for our senior members,” said Rossignol.
