News groups want to hear from you

Aroostook County news consumers, this one’s for you.

The Maine Monitor and the Bangor Daily News/The County invite the public to a special free forum from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 12, at the Sargent Family Community Center in Presque Isle.

For the last 15 years, the Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting has reported in-depth stories of public interest in Maine and made those available for everyone to read for free in all Maine news outlets, on its website, and, since 2020, in its publication, The Maine Monitor.

As the nonprofit news organization looks at its next 15 years of public service, independent journalism for Maine, it wants to hear from people in communities throughout Maine to help better understand how Mainers get news and what they need from local news in Maine.

The Maine Monitor and the Bangor Daily News share a coverage partnership. The County, which covers local news from the St. John Valley to the southernmost portions of Aroostook, is part of the BDN family.

Join reporters and staff from The Maine Monitor and The County for a community discussion about the role of local news, how you get your local news, and what you need from local news today and in the future.

The event is free to attend and light refreshments will be provided. The discussion is all off the record.
