I’m just a few weeks into my first 90 days as Presque Isle’s city manager, and I want to share a bit about where we’ve started and where we’re heading together.
This early chapter has been about listening deeply, observing systems and connecting with the people who make our city work. From walking through neighborhoods to joining staff meetings across departments, I’ve had the chance to learn from city employees, business owners, and residents who care deeply about Presque Isle.
What I’ve seen so far is what many of us already know: this is a hardworking community, rich with potential and powered by people who show up, not just for their jobs, but for one another. From volunteers who water the flowerbeds to staff who go the extra mile behind the scenes, there is quiet dedication everywhere you look.
We’ve started work on key initiatives, improving communication, enhancing coordination between departments, and addressing issues like beautification, public safety, and housing. Our Council and department heads are leaning into these conversations and I’m grateful for their collaboration as we begin to shape what the next phase of growth looks like.
As I look to the rest of these first 90 days, my priorities include:
– Strengthening internal teamwork with collaboration, development and improved morale
– Laying a foundation for long-term planning and strategic growth
– Supporting community engagement efforts that build public trust and responding to resident suggestions for improving neighborhood experiences and quality of life
– Advancing small but visible improvements that show we’re paying attention to our community
– Focusing on compassionate responses to public health and safety issues
– Fostering a sense of belonging with the belief that belonging is the foundation of a healthy, resilient and thriving community
– And communicating our values as a community and aligning goals and actions with those values
There’s still much to learn and a great deal more to do, but I’m encouraged by the conversations, the kindness and the can-do spirit I’ve already experienced.
Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to say hello, share a concern or lend a hand. This work is built on relationships and I’m committed to building strong ones with our staff, with our council, and with every citizen who calls Presque Isle home.
Together, we’ll continue to move forward with care, purpose, and community pride.
Here are a few early responses I’ve heard from citizens and city staff: “We just want to feel like we are part of the process.” “It’s encouraging to see departments working together more closely.” “We’re seeing a difference in our city looking more beautiful.”
“We are excited about the quick changes and positive energy in our city.” “The positivity is giving us hope.”
These voices remind me that good government isn’t just about outcomes, it’s about how we show up for each other every day.
