KENNEBUNK, Maine — Colton Simoes, a lacrosse player from Greater Houlton Christian Academy and the Northern Maine Moose Lacrosse team, competed in the Maine Underclassmen All-Star Showcase on June 26 at Kennebunk High School.
The junior traveled four hours to join 50 of Maine’s top players, having earned his spot through a competitive tryout on June 23 against 150 nominees from Classes A, B and C.
Simoes led the night in faceoff wins, outperforming four of Maine’s best faceoff/get off players. The event drew proud parents, coaches and college scouts.

Reflecting on the experience Simoes said, “You arrive wanting to impress the scouts, but after warming up I got lost in the game and the energy of playing with Maine’s best. I just wanted to do well for my teammates. It was a privilege.”
The showcase was competitive yet filled with camaraderie, with players exchanging high fives for goals and encouragement for missed opportunities.

Simoes shared faceoff duties with freshman Reese Sullivan from Wells High School, who came expecting to play less since Simoes was a junior.
Simoes was adamant, “Absolutely not you earned your spot, so we split it 50/50.”
Simoes expressed pride in representing GHCA, Houlton, Northern Maine Moose and Aroostook County. “People are talking about Houlton lacrosse,” he said. “I had big shoes to fill after Isaiah Ervin, and I hope I represented the Moose family well. I’m excited to see who from Northern Maine Moose will take the stage next year as I enter my senior season.”
