To the editor:
President Trump has managed to turn an important meeting into a disaster. What should have been the start of an historic accomplishment, the end of a three-year war that has brought death and destruction to both sides, was put in jeopardy because of Trump’s lack of finesse.
Trump’s treatment of Zelensky was deplorable, and Vance was no help. There was nothing said by Zelensky that could not have been smoothed over with a little bit of diplomacy. But instead of choosing a safe path, Trump chose to go on an egotistical rant.
I voted for Trump only because I considered him the lesser of two evils, but I am a fan of Vance. That said, I think Trump and Vance are wrong on this issue. I hope the damage done by Trump, by acting like a child that had his toe stepped on in the school yard, can be repaired.
His priorities are misplaced. He treats Zelensky like an enemy while calling Putin a friend. If there is an apology in order, I think it is Trump that should do the apologizing. The world was watching, and Trump did himself and our country no favor.
