MARS HILL, Maine – Snow drifts from the recent storm resulted in the closure of Route 1A between Mars Hill and Easton in Aroostook County as well as Route 167 in Presque Isle on Tuesday, according to social media posts from multiple emergency agencies.

“Route 1A from Mars Hill to Easton is currently closed due to extensive snow drifts and an 8 ft snow bank,” a post from Aroostook County Emergency Management read Tuesday morning. “There are vehicles stuck.”

Maine State Police also posted about the road closure Tuesday morning and uploaded a picture of the drifts covering nearly the entire road this morning.

“For those who live in Aroostook County, please avoid Rt. 1A in this area, and prepare a different route to your destinations,” the agency said.

Most recently, the National Weather Service in Caribou posted about the closure on Route 167.

“Route 167 in Presque Isle is also closed due to drifts,” the Weather Service wrote. “Be careful when traveling today as some roads are down to one lane due to west gusting winds between 35-40 mph.”
