PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Wintergreen Arts Center will feature tattoo artist Nichole Smith of Buttercup Studio during the month of February. The opening reception of Nichole’s show will be held Friday evening, February 7 from 6-7:45 p.m. during Presque Isle’s First Friday Art Walk. Live music will be provided by Janice Santos.
Smith was born and raised in Aroostook County. She has been tattooing for 16 years and specializes in black and grey style with a hint of neo-traditional. Smith holds a master’s degree in interdisciplinary arts from Columbia College and owns a private studio in Presque Isle.

“We are excited to share the artistry of Buttercup Studio’s Nichole Smith,” said Gretchen Violette, Wintergreen’s event director. “As the culture of tattoos has evolved and become mainstream, we’re seeing more and more people express themselves through body art. The tattoo artist is often lost in the process but should be recognized for their ability to bring a client’s idea to fruition, and on a moving canvas no less!”
Wintergreen has invited Smith’s clients to come and share their body art during her opening reception on February 7.
“Nichole is a highly respected and sought after tattoo artist,” said Violette. “We hope to see her artwork displayed in person by her clients, as photographs rarely do justice to body art.”
There are often special stories behind tattoos. Wintergreen hopes clients will reveal their stories during this live event. Smith’s opening reception is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
