
MADAWASKA, Maine — Thursday, January 9 was National Law Enforcement Officer Appreciation Day, so Country Village Estates invited the Madawaska Police Department and United States Border Patrol and Customs, there were no Maine State Police or Aroostook County Sheriffs Department representatives available to attend.
The event started with a prayer of protection for all of the law enforcement officers. The list of fallen officers while on duty was read. The list started with Madawaska Police Chief Daigle, who lost his life on duty in 1974. Officers from the Maine State Police and Aroostook County Sheriffs Department were also read. A memorial was mentioned for all United States Border Patrol and Customs officers who have laid their lives on the line.
Louis Dugal, owner and administrator, spoke and presented the officers with certificates of appreciation to each department. Refreshments were served and residents were able to talk with the officers.
