Cross Lake couple mark 70 years together

The children of Raynold and Rolande (Soucy) Pelletier announce their parents’ 70th wedding anniversary.

Raynold and Rolande were married Dec. 28, 1954, in Clair, New Brunswick. They lived on the family farm until 1968 and then moved to Cross Lake, where they reside today.

Raynold was born in Fort Kent on July 16, 1931, attended Fort Kent High School and managed the family potato farm in Daigle. In the mid 1960s, he stopped farming and went to work as manager of the potato starch factory in Fort Kent.

In 1980, when the factory closed, he worked as a boiler operator for Great Northern’s lumber mill in Ashland until his retirement. He also was a volunteer fireman for the Guerrette Fire Department.

Rolande was born in Edmunston on July 16, 1934. She worked as a mother’s helper for Raynold’s sister, which is how they met. After marriage, she continued to be a homemaker at the family farm, occasionally doing sewing projects for neighbors and friends. She also worked seasonal jobs at potato processing plants and raised seven children.

When all the children were out of the house and she had time on her hands, she became the president of the Cross Lake Senior Citizen Club, planning and preparing holiday gatherings for the community and doing the same for funeral celebrations of life.

Raynold and Rolande’s children are Linda Shaw in Presque Isle, Dean Pelletier in Brunswick, Donna Pelletier in Scarborough, David Pelletier in Wallagrass, Ricky Pelletier in Lewiston and Ken Pelletier in Eagle Lake.

Their son, Mark, passed away in 2015.

They have 12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

“We are very proud and honored for the great example of family and kindness they have modeled all these years together. They have always taught their children to work hard, be honest, and generous,” Donna Pelletier said. “It is with much gratitude we share their anniversary.”
