Aroostook State Park cancels activities due to lack of snow

Melting snow and warm conditions have temporarily curtailed some winter recreation at Aroostook State Park in Presque Isle.

Park officials issued a report Monday that, due to the lack of snow, trail grooming is not yet possible, so skiing and snowshoeing aren’t available.

And, because the ice on Echo Lake isn’t safe to walk on at this point, there is no sledding or sliding available.

“Once we have enough snow, we will be grooming and offering hopefully some great skiing and snowshoe trails,” park officials said in a trail condition report posted on the Bureau of Parks and Lands.

There will also be no winter camping for the 2024-2025 season, according to the report.

Staff advised that parts of the campground road may be closed for a couple of weeks as construction starts on a new shower house.
