ASHLAND, Maine — The Town of Ashland Council and Librarian Hilary Moore are pleased to announce to the community that the Gladys J. Craig Memorial Library is the recipient of a $5,000 grant from the John Henry  Eldred Jr. Foundation. These funds will be utilized for the purchase of circulation materials, children’s books and programming. Moore will be replacing old books and improving the children’s reading/activities area with these funds.

In 2024 the library has offered more than 18 new  programs/activities for children and these funds are sorely needed to continue improving the library efforts to modernize the children collection and be able to continue to offer children activities.

Secondly, Moore is also pleased to announce that the library is now a partner with the National Digital Equity Center, a Maine-based digital education entity, to offer in-person and online digital education courses at the library. Moore has re-arranged the basement that allows for Digital Skills Classes in the form of interactive, live online classes, as well as in-person, onsite, classes. Trainers can accommodate up to 10 students per class. They will be offering courses for home and education, work & business and technology for seniors. They tailor their offerings based on each location’s needs (smartphones, PCs, software, internet related, etc).

NDEC does their own advertising and there are sign up forms for interested parties at the library. All training is free for Maine citizens, $50 per class for out-of-staters. The first class is January 6, 2025. We encourage area citizens to take advantage of these opportunities at the library.
