The County Community Players production of Dickens’ ‘A Christmas Carol’ brings the spirit of the season to life

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – This holiday season, the timeless classic “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens is being reimagined in an innovative and interactive production that promises to engage audiences like never before. The County Community Players will be taking “A Christmas Carol” around Aroostook County, offering a fresh, immersive twist on the beloved story of Ebenezer Scrooge’s transformation from a miserly curmudgeon to a warm-hearted benefactor.

In this unique adaptation, the audience is not just a passive observer — they become part of the story. Adapted and directed by Sara Harvey, the production is designed to be fun and family-friendly, making it the perfect holiday outing for audiences of all ages. Smaller venues allow for the actors to engage with the audience, and the traveling show brings it closer to audiences throughout Aroostook County. Total run time is just over an hour with cocoa and cookies provided.

“We wanted to create something that not only honors Dickens’ original work, but also invites the audience to experience the magic of the season in a completely new way,” said Sara Harvey, the director of the production. “We also wanted to give back to the Saint John Valley for the support they have shown The Players over the years.”

There will be four performances of “A Christmas Carol” in three locations throughout Aroostook County. Friday, December 6, the show starts at 7 p.m. at Lakeview Restaurant in Saint Agatha. The Saturday, December 7 performance will be at 2 p.m. at the Fort Kent Senior Center. The following weekend, shows will be at the Sargent Family Community Center in Presque Isle on Friday, December 13 at 6 p.m. and Saturday, December 14 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $15 per adult and $5 for children 12 and under. They are on sale now at thecountyplayers.org and can be purchased at the door before each performance.
