The Town of Mapleton saw one of its highest voter turnouts on Election Day. The town has 1,500-plus registered voters and approximately 1191 voters cast ballots in person or by absentee ballot.

The election was overseen by Samantha Watt, town clerk. Election warden Paula Shaw oversaw election clerks  Jamie Chandler and Michelle York, as well as the counters.  They began work well before 8 a.m. on Tuesday morning. After securing the ballots, Watt left at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday.

A dozen voters were in line when the polls opened.  Voting was steady all day until the end of the workday.  Starting at 5 p.m., there was a lengthy line outside.  Voters stood in the rain until they could enter the building.  By 7:30 p.m., there was a trickle of voters until closing at 8 p.m.

Watt was happy to see such a large turnout and pleased that voting proceeded smoothly all day. The election team conducted the election well, including the registration of several new voters, she said.

The Town of Mapleton experienced an extraordinary voter turnout for Election 2024. During the peak hours of 4:30 to 7 p.m., voters wait outside in a cold rain to cast their ballots.

Auction ends today

The Mapleton Daze 6th annual online auction ends today, Nov. 13, at 6 p.m.  The online address for the auction is https://www.facebook.com/events/535929372326356.

Only online bids are accepted. Go to the “discussion tab,” scroll down and look at the listed items. Place your bid in the comment section under that picture. Keep checking back on the items you have bid on to see if you have been outbid and need to place another bid.

Bids can be made today until 5:59 pm. No late bids will be accepted after that time.

The items were given as donations for Mapleton Daze 2025. The online auction has been fun for bidders and participants. The best part is the many great deals that bidders find in the auction. This event is the Mapleton Daze committee’s biggest fundraiser for the year and proceeds allow them to provide events during the week of Mapleton Daze, free of charge, for everyone to attend.

Items bought must be picked up locally at the West Chapman Advent Christian Church from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 18, and from 9 a.m.  to noon on Saturday, Nov. 19.

Because this is a fundraiser, winning items cannot be mailed. If you have any questions, feel free to message Lynnelle Foster or Laurie Boucher

Bonnie Steeves and Laurie Boucher assemble chicken stew dinners, as Danielle Pelkey waits to deliver them to customers outside during the Mapleton Daze drive-thru stew night. All funds raised will be used for Mapleton Daze 2025 expenses.

The West Chapman Advent Christian Church will hold their annual fundraising harvest supper starting at 5 p.m. on Nov. 23, continuing until the food is gone.

The menu includes turkey, ham, mashed potato, carrots, squash, homemade rolls, drinks and homemade pies for dessert.

All funds collected will go directly to the urgent need of a new roof.

Potluck dinner change

The Chapman Ridge Runners Snowmobile Club has changed the date of the November potluck supper/meeting to Saturday, Nov. 23, due to a scheduling conflict.  Members are encouraged to come and learn about the changes and improvements on the trails.

Current or potential new members are all welcome to attend and enjoy a great meal and find about the coming sledding season.
