To the editor:
Janet Mills, in her letter to the Times on Oct. 23, stated: “Donald Trump’s plan for a second presidency-Project 2025…” Anything she said after that on the subject of 2025 isn’t worth repeating. Unless she can offer concrete proof that Trump endorses 2025, which she can’t, anything she has to say about it should just be considered rhetoric.
Mills also stated that Trump tried many times to repeal the Affordable Care Act. The act was passed by one vote. My question to Mills is: Do you hold all the people who voted against passing the act in as low esteem as you seem to hold Trump? If not, why?
Mills also says Trump talks about deporting whole populations to other countries. The fact is Trump wants to deport people who have broken the law by entering our country illegally. My next question to Mills is: Do you believe in enforcement of all laws or only the ones you think should be enforced?
Mills also says Republican leaders all across Maine have denounced Trump. I believe there are also Democrats who have sided with Trump on many topics.
I find the timing of her letter also interesting. It’s said, the last word is the remembered word. With only one more printing of the Times before Election Day, was she hoping to sneak her letter in before anyone had time to respond to it?
I would like to hear Mills’ response to this letter, but I doubt it will happen. Politicians like to be heard but very few have the courage to stand behind what they say.
I believe there are better choices for the presidency than Donald Trump, but Kamala Harris is not one of them.
