CARIBOU, Maine – A Caribou home was a complete loss after a fire near the Fort Fairfield town line Sunday.

Fire crews received a call at 8:40 a.m. and found the residential structure at 33 Main Siding Road engulfed in flames. One person living in the home escaped without injury but several pet ducks were lost in the blaze, said firefighter Ryan Hall.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Hall said Monday. Although the exterior of the home remains standing, the fire ripped through the interior, making it uninhabitable.

Most crew members from Caribou, Limestone and Fort Fairfield remained on site until 11 a.m. Several personnel assisted investigators throughout the day. Presque Isle fire crews covered dispatch services for Caribou during the fire.

Sunday’s fire was the second that occurred in Caribou in under a week. On Wednesday, four people were displaced after a fire destroyed an apartment building at 653 Main St.

The American Red Cross is assisting the resident who was displaced from 33 Main Siding Road, Hall said.
