The Central Aroostook Probus Club held its monthly meeting on Sept. 19 at Northern Maine Community College in Presque Isle.
Speaker LeRae Kinney, CEO of Ignite Presque Isle, gave an overview of the nonprofit organization. Ignite Presque Isle is a community development organization centered in the Northeastland Hotel. The organization bought the hotel to save it as a key component of downtown Presque Isle which was in danger of closing.
The building now contains the office and meeting space of Ignite Presque Isle, as well as its innovation center to support revitalization of the downtown, a co-working space with the latest business equipment and two rooms for private meetings.
There is also the restaurant, Rodney’s at 436 Main, featuring fresh, local food cooked on site.
Ignite Presque Isle does pay property taxes, Kinney said. Its mission is to inspire revitalization and innovation by promoting entrepreneurship in Presque Isle.
PROBUS meets every third Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Keegan Room, Reed Hall, Northern Maine Community College, Presque Isle. Visitors are welcome.
