Supporting Matt Rush for Maine Senate

To the editor:

I am writing in support of Matt Rush, my friend and a first-time candidate for State Senate District 2. Like so many of us here in The County, Matt worked at an early age on his family’s potato farm, Rush Brothers Farms, and learned the importance of a strong work ethic. He is someone who understands the importance of that ethic for people in our area.

Years ago, when I returned to Houlton after serving in Vietnam, I met with Matt’s parents, Bob and Anne Rush, at Cary Library. As many of you know, Bob and Anne were very active in the local community. They told me I should try running for political office, and after some convincing I did. Twenty years later I was Maine’s Attorney General and it all started with that meeting.

Matt comes from good Aroostook County stock and he shares so many of the values I admired in his parents — a commitment to honesty, hard work, and common sense. I know he will take these values and attitude to his work in Augusta. Matt will work to ensure child care is affordable for working families, to strengthen our economy and ensure young people can make a living here, side with Maine people over Big Pharma to keep prescription drugs costs low and more.

I proudly endorse his run for Maine Senate and I hope you will join me in supporting him in November.
