DYER BROOK, Maine — Elementary students at Southern Aroostook Community School honored their local veterans Thursday, Nov. 8 with a small ceremony at the school.
About 20 local veterans participated in the event, receiving “thank you” cards created by the students.
The students also participated in a “Hat Day” to raise money for “Wreaths Across America,” which is spearheaded locally by Lorna and Scott Harris. The Harris’ son, Army Spc. Dustin Harris, was killed by an improvised explosive device (IED) on April 6, 2006 while serving in the Army as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
