HOULTON, Maine — If pumpkins were your thing, then downtown Houlton was the place to be Saturday as members of the Masonic Monument Lodge No. 96 hosted their 3rd annual Family Fun Day in Market Square.
About 200 free pumpkins were handed out to families, with stations set up for carving or painting the gourds. In addition, a free hot dog lunch, complete with chips, drinks and sweet treats, was also available.
“We were looking for events that could bring families together in a positive way,” said Worshipful Master Lee Oliver. “We had about 70 pumpkins last year and we ran out quickly, so this year we have around 200.”
The pumpkins were donated by Hogan Farms and Oliver Farms, while the Greater Houlton Chamber of Commerce donated the hot dogs for the event. By 12:30 p.m., nearly all of the pumpkins had been claimed.
Face painting and bean bag games also were available for children.
