The Easton Alumni Association would like to thank everyone who helped make this year’s annual alumni basketball game a success. The Easton Alumni Association once again sponsored the recent alumni game, in which our Bears hosted their long-time rivals the Mars Hill Panthers.
It was great to see all the alumni that showed up in support of their respective schools. “The Barn” was alive with squeaking sneakers, thumping basketballs, cheering fans, an occasional whistle and lots of laughter.
Our lady Bears brought home a victory, but it was a little harder to determine the outcome of the guys’ game. Mars Hill was “short” on players, so they “borrowed” some of the former Bears. Many thanks to all those who helped pull this together, and all of those who dusted off their sneakers to show support. We hope to see you all back next year.

Early registration
The Easton School Department is now accepting registration for children entering Kindergarten or pre-K in the fall of 2018. All children residing within the Easton school district who are 5 years old (on or before Oct. 15, 2018) are eligible for enrollment in the Kindergarten class, while those who are 4 years old (on or before Oct. 15) are eligible for pre-K.

Please call the Easton Elementary School at 488-7700 as soon as possible to register your child for either of the above classes. The classroom teacher will notify parents/guardians when an informational meeting for parents is scheduled.
The following documents are required by the state of Maine: (1) proof of immunizations, (2) birth certificate (hospital copies are not acceptable), and (3) proof of residency (rental agreement, utility bill, etc). These documents must be presented prior to the child beginning school.
Moonlight hike
On Saturday, Jan. 27, at 6:30 p.m., the Francis Malcolm Planetarium will present the planetarium show “Back to the Moon for Good.”
This dynamic presentation details the upcoming Google Lunar X Prize competition, a $30 million effort for privately funded teams to successfully and robotically explore the lunar surface. This approximately 30-minute feature will go along with the center’s first moonlight snowshoe hike of the season at 7 p.m., following the program.

Cost: Adults $5; Students $3. Snowshoes are available in a variety of sizes for a rental fee of $2, but must be reserved in advance. Headlamps or flashlights are recommended.

Happy Days Club
The next Happy Days meeting is Jan. 25 at 11:30 a.m., starting with a pizza lunch. Members will elect new officers at this meeting.
At the Jan. 11 meeting there were three officer positions voted in and the group will elect the last position with the start date of Feb. 8.
Please join in the fun and bring a friend for an afternoon of board games or if you prefer feel free to set up a puzzle. There is lots of table room for both.

The Easton Community Celebration Calendars have arrived at the Town Office. Please pick up your copy (copies) as soon as possible. There are extras available.
Bone Builders
Bone Builders class meets each Monday and Friday starting at 9:45 in the Recreation Room at the Manor.
Bone Builders is a free strength training, balance and exercise program. The program’s goal is to prevent and reverse the effects of osteoporosis. This class is for women and men who want to stay healthy. You must have a doctor’s permission to join the class.
To be successful, you should commit to attending twice a week for six months. Studies have shown that strength and fitness can improve at any age. This program relies on weight training and balance exercises to protect against fractures caused by osteoporosis. Each one-hour classes, held twice a week will increase muscle strength, balance and bone density. This program is offered through Area on Aging, Cary Medical Center and the Easton Recreation Department.
Library change
The community library at Easton High School will no longer be open for regular hours on Saturday mornings. In the future, library services will still be available on an “as requested” basis to arrange a mutually convenient time please contact Steve Demaio at 805-2702.
