With temperatures that have matched the red-hot play of girls soccer squads, it has been a fun fall season for local teams.
Houlton (4-0) has continued its domination of regular season opponents thus far, outscoring foes
26-5. The Shires are currently the No. 2 seed in Class C North, behind top-ranked Fort Kent (4-1).
In Class D North, Katahdin (2-1-1) is currently eighth, while Southern Aroostook (0-2-2) is 10th, Hodgdon (3-1) is 11th and East Grand (1-3) is 14th. The top 12 teams qualify for the postseason.
The following is a recap of games played through Monday, Sept. 12.
Houlton 8, Schenck 0 — At East Millinocket Monday, Houlton’s Kolleen Bouchard scored two goals and notched four assists to power the Shires to the victory. Mia Hanning and Sierra Hoops also both scored two goals, while Aspen Flewelling and Tessa Solomon added solo goals.
Allison Nodden had 14 saves on 29 shots for Schenck.
Hodgdon 3, Katahdin 5 — At Stacyville Monday, the Cougars handed Hodgdon its first loss of the season thanks to a multi-goal effort from Bailey Kay Moody (2 goals). Erin Lake, Georgia Landry and Hannah Kyllonen each had one goal.
For Hodgdon, Jill Gough scored two goals and Sydney Crane had one.
Calais 2, Houlton 11 — At Houlton Friday, the Shires’ home opener was a goal-scoring fest as Houlton romped to the lopsided victory. The Shires received three goals from Chloe Davis, while Rebecca Mooers chipped in two goals to lead the attack. Amelia Ivey, Hanning, Tyra Gentle, Bouchard, Hoops and Jamie Brown also picked up solo goals. Bouchard also finished with 2 assists.
For Houlton, Solomon and Hannah Foley combined to make four saves on seven Calais shots. Lauren Cook made 17 saves on 33 shots for Calais.
Limestone 1, Hodgdon 8 — At Hodgdon Friday, Taylor Desrosiers led the Hawks offensively with three goals. Sidney Crane chipped in two goals while Maddie Merritt and Jill Gough both scored one goal each.
Megan Russell scored one goal and had one assist, while Jessica Drew and Autumn Ganzel combined saving 16 of 17 shots.
Sam Zwecker scored for Limestone. Karoline Dillenbeck and Bridget Tompson combined for 12 saves on 20 shots.
East Grand 3, Highview Christian 2 — At Charleston Thursday, Natalie Golding’s goal from a Madison Oliver assist with a little under 15 minutes left in the game proved to be the game winner as East Grand got past Highview Christian.
Trailing 2-1 at the half the Vikings got a goal from Jordyn Cowger 1:50 into the second half before Golding’s game winner for the 1-2 Vikings.
Javona Philbrick and Hannah Goulet scored the goals for the 0-1 Knights.
Houlton 4, Mattanawcook Academy 1 — At Lincoln Sept. 7 Hanning scored two goals and assisted on another by Claire Gilpatrick as Houlton defeated Mattanawcook Academy. Bouchard added two assists for the Shires, while Soloman and Foley combined for eight saves on 10 shots.
Emily LaDuke scored for the Lynx (0-2). Symone Malbaurn made 23 saves on 30 shots.
Ashland 4, Southern Aroostook 1 — At Dyer Brook Sept. 7, Makenzie Carter and Shelby Stolze netted two goals apiece as Ashland remained unbeaten on the season, moving to 6-0. Cassidy Pelletier provided an assist for the Hornets, while Megan Cote had one save on two shots.
Katie Stevens scored for Southern Aroostook and Sydney Brewer saved 18 of 31 shots.
Hodgdon 12, East Grand 1 — At Danforth Sept. 6, the visiting Hawks scored early and often en route to the big win. Hodgdon’s Jill Gough scored six goals and added three assists. Sydney Crane contributed two goals.
For East Grand, Haleigh Shay scored on a direct kick.
Goalie Jessica Drew stopped 14 shots for the Hawks, while Kianna Caissie and Jordyn Cowger combined to make 21 saves for the Vikings.
