Local Hot Shots shine at state event
PORTLAND, Maine — Aroostook County youths took titles in four of the six age divisions at the Maine Recreation and Parks Association/Maine Red Claws Hot Shot Competition, held at the Portland Expo March 13, 2016.
Madelyn Deprey of Caribou was the 9-10 girls’ winner, while Dawson Beaulieu of Presque Isle took the 9-10 boys’ title. Amber Chasse of Ashland won the 13-15 girls’ division and Parker Deprey of Caribou claimed the victory for 13-15 boys.
The runner-up in the 9-10 girls’ category was Michaela Carney of Ashland, with Jacob Berkoski of Caribou taking second in the 13-15 boys’ division.
Several other youths from Aroostook County participated, having qualified through the district championship held in Caribou in February. All the participants and their families were invited to attend a Maine Red Claws basketball game that afternoon.
