Cary Medical Center holds 23rd Walk or Ride for Care

CARIBOU, Maine — Cary Medical Center held their 23rd Ride or Walk For Care, an annual breast cancer fundraiser, at 10:00 pm on Saturday, October 3, 2015.

“It is another fabulous year,” said Kris Doody, Cary Medical Center RN, CEO. “The weather is beautiful and there is a lot of positive energy. This has been a major fundraiser for our hospital for more than 20 years, but more importantly, it also raises awareness about breast health. There is an overall national goal of eliminating breast cancer and we support that effort.”

“The Ladies Auxiliary has fundraised for our Women’s Imaging Center through this event and they are also putting some of that money towards the Jefferson Cary Cancer Center,” said Bethany Zell of the Cary Medical Center Public Relations Department. “They have done a tremendous amount of fundraising through this event over the years and are vital to the Women’s Imaging Center. It’s changed throughout the years, but the attendance is still great. People have a heart for doing it and we encourage them to come out.”

“There has always been strong support over the years from different groups of people or businesses,” said Doody. “One year, Loring Job Corps actually carried a canoe over their head for the entire walk. This year, we have a group of employees from Sitel who are supporting the event.”

“Our goal is to raise awareness and provide breast cancer services for our patients here in Aroostook County,” said Kim Jones, Public Relations Coordinator for Cary Medical Center. “Ideally, we would rather not see people travel for their services. This would allow patients to have more support from their friends and family at home.”

“It’s always about going beyond wearing a ribbon,” added Zell, “and that’s what these people are doing here today. They’re putting their money where their mouth is and truly helping us raise awareness.”
