Cary Medical Center invests in new diagnostic imaging
Ultrasound machines provide enhanced 3D images
Cary Medical Center in Caribou has made another significant investment and upgrade in diagnostic imaging technology with the recent purchase of two new ultrasound machines from Siemens.
The Siemens ACUSON S2000 is a premier imaging and shared service system that delivers exceptional performance for general imaging and women’s health. Providing enhanced 3D image clarity, the new state-of-the-art ultrasound systems feature high density (HD) quality transducers that obtain more ultrasound data, delivering the highest detail resolution possible distinguishing the most subtle tissue details. Improved image quality in turn provides for a more efficient and precise diagnosis.
“We are very excited about our new technology and ultrasound capabilities,” commented Lori Ouellette, R.T.(R)(CT)(MR), Primary Charge of Radiology. “Our technologists have begun doing liver elastography procedures with our new equipment. This is a non-invasive painless screening tool for diagnosing liver fibrosis and cirrhosis. The new equipment will also be used for abdominal, breast, cardiac, OB/GYN and vascular imaging procedures.”
The radiology departments’ new ultrasound machines are the third pieces of Siemens diagnostic imaging equipment the Caribou hospital has purchased in recent years. In 2012, the hospital invested in a state-of-the-art full-field digital mammography machine, and Aroostook County’s first fully digital stereotactic breast biopsy system, that are both currently in use in the hospital’s Women’s Imaging Center.
The Siemens Mammomat Full-field Inspiration Digital Mammography machine offers digital screening and diagnostic mammography producing excellent image quality designed to minimize the patient’s radiation dose and exposure time. The new Siemens breast biopsy system allows for a minimally invasive procedure with increased patient comfort. The system is capable of identifying the smallest calcifications, allowing for a more precise and efficient diagnosis.
“The hospital’s continued investment in Siemens equipment represents our dedication to using the highest quality digital imaging systems for our patients,” commented Dr. Shawn Laferriere, Medical Director of Radiology. “The feedback from our patients who have had their mammograms or biopsies in our Women’s Imaging Center has been exceptional. And, in addition to the clinical advantages our new diagnostic equipment provides, just like the Women’s Imaging Center, we have created patient-centered environments in our imaging suites, with the goal of providing convenient and comfortable services for all of our patients.” “Over the years Cary has built a reputation for high quality patient care”, said Kris Doody, RN Cary CEO for the past 14 years. “With the addition of this new ultrasound equipment our imaging technology in many ways equals technology anywhere in the state of Maine. We are so excited about the benefits this brings to our patients”.
