Make-A-Wish Walk

UMPI will host a Make-A-Wish Walk Thursday, Sept. 24, 2015 starting at 7 p.m. in the Campus Center, sponsored by the Dean of Students Office.

Check-in and on-site registration begins at 6 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room. This event is free and open to the public. Prizes will be available.

Dean of Students Jim Stepp said his office has helped organize this event for five years because of a personal connection: “I am close friends with two families who have children who have been granted wishes by the Make-A-Wish Foundation,” Stepp said.

Last year, UMPI raised over $1,000 and had 60 participants.

Mwika Musicians here

UMPI’s Bachelor of Social Work Program will present the Mwika Musicians for a special reception and cultural exchange Friday, Sept. 25, 2015 at 7 p.m. in Wieden Auditorium.

This delegation of 12 student musicians, their chorale director, and the college principal from Stefano Moshi Memorial University College in Mwika, Tanzania, is visiting Maine for two weeks to share their culture and traditions, experience the culture and music here, and build upon the collaborations between UMPI and the Tanzanian college.

The reception will include demonstrations of traditional Afrikan music through stories, song and dance. The music is in Kiswahili and is arranged to reflect the group’s Christian faith. This event is free and open to the public and donations will be accepted at the door.
