Houlton resident celebrates 100th birthday

HOULTON, Maine — Another long-time community resident has celebrated the milestone of reaching 100 years of age.
Maxine Marion Bennett Giberson celebrated the event Saturday at First Settlers Lodge in Weston where she was joined by more than 125 guests from all over United States, including representatives from Tennessee, Massachusetts, Alabama, Florida and Connecticut.

A luncheon, cake, speeches, singing of happy birthday were all in order. Guests were given goody bags with samples of two of Maxine’s most popular cookie recipes with recipe cards included. Prizes were also given out. Cookies were baked and the entire event was planned and prepared by Maxine’s niece, Olive Shu of Massachusetts.
Born Aug. 12, 1915 in Wytopitlock to LaForest and Nellie Bennett, the family moved when she was young to Danforth. In fact, Giberson still owns a camp on Hot Brook Lake.
A retired educator, Giberson remains active and still has her driver’s license. One of her favorite activities is to watch the television program “Jeopardy.”

Editor’s Note: A County Face feature story on Giberson will appear in an upcoming issue.
