STACYVILLE, Maine — Katahdin High School Principal Jonathan Porter has announced honor parts for the Class of 2015. Mariah Farrington is valedictorian, while Caleb Cullen is salutatorian and Jacob Buhler, Cole Lane, Kassadi Moore and Shey Lane have all been named honor students.
Farrington is the daughter of Michele Roshto of Crystal. She plans to attend Houghton College in New York and has been accepted in the Honors Program. She will be majoring in the pre-veterinary program. Farrington is a member of the National Honor Society, Senior Class President, prom committee, Student Council, Yearbook Editor, co-leader of Youth Advocacy Group, co-leader of Middle School Career Fair, Civil Rights and Upward Bound Leadership Council.
She has also participated in varsity softball, Dirigo Girls State, HOBY as a sophomore and HOBY as a junior facilitator, and All Aroostook Chorus for three years. Farrington has also volunteered for the Freemasons, Nordic Heritage Center, Celebration of Life, Ark Animal Sanctuary, 30-Hour Famine, Special Olympics, Red Cross blood drives, UMPI building scraping, Vacation Bible School, and planted flowers in the town of Patten.
Cullen is the son of Brent and Susan Cullen of Patten. He plans to attend Southern Maine Community College and major in emergency medical service/paramedic. Cullen is a member of National Honor Society, Student Council, Performing Arts Club of Katahdin (PACK), Civil Rights Team, All-Aroostook Music Festival, Youth Advocacy Team, and prom committee.
He volunteered for the American Red Cross blood drive, Masonic child identification program, Patten Fire Department as a firefighter, National Honor Society community service events, and Vacation Bible School.
Buhler is the son of Bryan and Julie Buhler of Patten. He will attend University of Maine and major in liberal studies. Buhler was vice president of the NHS his junior year, president of the organization his senior year, Senior Class vice president, and a member of Student Council.
Buhler is a member PACK, prom committee, All-Aroostook Chorus for four years, All-State Chorus for two years, and pep/marching band. He has volunteered for Special Olympics, town meetings, Red Cross blood drive, middle school awards dinner and as a graduation usher.
Cole Lane is the son of Keith and Shelley Lane of Crystal. He plans to attend Northern Maine Community College and major in entrepreneurship. Lane is a member of the NHS. He has participated in Region II in the welding and forestry classes. Lane has had heavy equipment operation and mechanic training and uses this training for several jobs.
Moore is the daughter of Jay Moore of Sherman. She plans to attend Husson University and major in sports journalism. She is a member of the Student Council, NHS, All-Aroostook Chorus and Band, pep/marching band and the PACK. She was manager of the baseball team and captain of the soccer team. She volunteered on the prom committee, Special Olympics, Youth Group, Celebration of Life, and Red Cross blood drive. Moore also played piano for the 2012 Patten Alumni Reunion.
Shey Lane is the son of David and Kim Lane of Sherman. He plans to attend the University of Maine and major in athletic training. He has participated in varsity soccer, basketball and baseball. He was team captain of the soccer and baseball teams. Lane was awarded PVC All Academic, All-Aroostook Scholar Athlete, All-Aroostook baseball, All-PVC soccer and Honorable Mention in PVC baseball and soccer.
